Presently, a two-year B.Ed programme is offered by the Government College of Education, Jammu and students are admitted through the entrance examination conducted every year by Jammu & Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (JKBOPEE). The intake capacity of the B.Ed programme is 200 students.
The main purpose of this programme is to develop the understanding and competencies required by practicing teachers for effective teaching and learning at different stages of education, especially from primary stage to secondary stage. This two-year B.Ed programme also provides opportunities for sharing experiences gained by pupil teachers in different educational institutions. It produces skilled and reflective practitioners.
This course is designed for aspirants interested in pursuing a career in teaching and allied fields. A B.Ed degree is the basic requirement for teaching from primary to secondary education levels in India. Any bachelor’s degree holder can join this course after qualifying the JKBOPEE entrance examination.
The B.Ed programme focuses on improving teaching skills and understanding effective teaching strategies. It enables pupil teachers to answer: “What to Teach, How to Teach, and Where to Teach.” Upon completion, pupil teachers will be able to implement varied teaching strategies such as differentiated instruction, cooperative learning, and integrating technology in classrooms.
With a B.Ed degree, candidates can work in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Army Schools, educational consultancies, and are eligible for government teaching jobs through CTET and other examinations. This degree is also a prerequisite to appear in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). Upon qualifying CTET, candidates can be appointed as primary or secondary teachers at the central level in India.
