The Government College of Education Jammu, established in 1955, has been constantly moving forward. It is the only government educational institution imparting teacher education in the Jammu region. The college offers B.Ed. and M.Ed. (02-year) courses with an intake capacity of 200 and 29 respectively. A three-year B.Ed.-M.Ed. integrated course after P.G. has also been started this year.
Right from its inception, the college has been a hub of academic, socio-cultural, and intellectual activities. It has always stood strong to prepare its stakeholders to embrace a broad educational outlook and strives towards excellence in both human resource development and infrastructure.
The college, as a team, consists of staff and students along with other stakeholders. It upholds itself as a model institution imparting social values alongside the teaching-learning process. It renders excellent service to the student community in general and promotes women empowerment in particular by consistently marking its presence on university merit boards, co-curricular activities, and sports achievements.
Now a constituent college of Cluster University Jammu, the institution provides ample opportunities for students to identify and explore their talents through in-house competitions as well as participation in activities organized by other institutions. Students are encouraged to become members of various clubs and student bodies.
The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, with its rich diversity, considers the requirements of students and provides a platform for continuous interaction between students and faculty working across colleges and universities for the growth of higher education.
The college also encourages sharing of its facilities and infrastructure with other organizations such as University Examinations, IGNOU, BOPEE, PSC, UPSC, SSC, RRB, banking examinations, and other government agencies. It facilitates the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and provides training programs, thereby strengthening the fiduciary relationship between teacher and taught, ultimately contributing to the growth of society.
